I don't want to rile up the libertarian types in here, but I think free market is putting emphasis on all the wrong things. All the innovative companies now a days are companies that deal with the most mundane and unfruitful parts of life. Like social networking which is nothing more than enabling people to spy on eachother's life without ever meeting face to face. Or smartphones which are used for pursuits that are anything but smart. These industries are lucrative but they are developing the most frivolous parts of our life. I would rather transport all the money that has gone into the social networking industry, the smartphone industry, and the fast food industry, into something like NASA or Cancer research institutes. I really don't mind using a flip phone, or not stalking my love interest on Facebook.
