#4997 This confession is in reference to #4983 (the "I think women secretly enjoy being objectified..." post). I'm not going to say that is true for ALL women but in my experience with women I have found that they like to be subjected to a man's physical attraction and approval to some degree (at least the straight ones). I've had many encounters where a woman has stuck her ass out or stood a certain way to get me to notice her. They even adjust their bras. Not to mention when I was a child around 10 to 12 years old I had a couple experiences of girls my age flashing me. I had sex with a girl last night who had told me she was a "feminist" and I still proceeded to tell her while we were in the act that it was "my pussy". She supported my theory by also screaming several times that it was mine... this was during sex so she didn't have all her facilities about her to really guard what she was saying. This was her true self: a sexual being who doesn't mind if another "owns" her genitals... actually enjoys it. She wants to be objectified.

I believe this desire to be objectified is partly due to gender roles, as I do believe gender is a "social construction", somewhat independent of one's physical and predetermined "sex". Women are taught to be submissive and to devote a great deal of effort into making themselves as physically attractive as possible. I believe to a certain degree women (especially younger women) are valued for how good-looking they are. This is where the stereotype of the "ugly, hairy, bra-burning feminist" comes from. These women are supposedly angry because they have not been ascribed this value, so they want to banish the entire institution that created it. I cannot jump into these women's heads and really hear what they are thinking, but I have witnessed behavior that really supports this theory.

This is a very different and transitional time in the Western world. Women have to balance the old and deal with the new. They want to accomplish great things in their careers and at home and feel they should be respected. But what does "respect" really mean? Can a woman really feel like a man who leers at her and makes cat calls and what not, clearly expressing physical desire for her as one who "respects" her? This question and those similar to it are the ones that rise from this debate, and it's going to be very interesting to see how it plays out.
