First off, I don't have a problem with dining hall staff, I'm never in there. Of the dining services employees I've dealt with at cafes around campus, I've never had an issue, always good people. However, as I recall, people have dealt with many rude dining services employees that can't get orders right.
If employees are being rude to customers and can't get orders right, they don't deserve to be paid more. Those that aren't being rude, are working hard, get orders right? Promote them. Being underpaid is not an excuse to be rude.
It's a job. You work, you get money. It's that simple. You are expected to do your job, be pleasant to people you work with, and be polite to customers. If you can't do that, you don't deserve a job, or a raise. You do your job well? Maybe you move up.
You want to talk about overworked and underpaid? Nearly everyone at this university is overworked and underpaid. It's a university.

#5663 I'm so sick of people immediately assuming they know me or know my beliefs based off my religion. I'm Catholic. And, like Catholicism actually teaches, I love everybody, no matter their sexual orientation, life values, or anything else. I'm not homophobic, nor do I think people who are gay are going to hell. But immediately people assume that they know everything about me the minute they find out my religion. Sometimes, I can't even get a word in while people are getting mad at me for what we "believe". I'm all for advocating your beliefs, but I think that's it's NOT okay for you to be able to constantly talk about how 1) god isn't real 2) religion is a hoax or 3) Catholics are all homophobic, far right conservatives who have their heads buried in the sand, but the minute I try to defend myself or my religion, or even just simply try to explain how your perception of what the church teaches is wrong, it's immediately considered "shoving my beliefs down your throat." The church truly teaches that you should love everybody no matter what, and treat others as best you can, even if you don't agree with their life decisions.
And I think it's disgusting that I'm ashamed to bring up my religion because I'm afraid of people immediately judging me. I even think it's more socially acceptable to talk about how religion is fake than the other way around. I'm so tired of this biased assumption and double standards.
