#6613 Everyone is going off about feminism right now so why not join in. I don't really have strong opinions on this, but when using the example of holding doors open for someone, I just think of that as a common courtesy. I usually hold doors open, and I think it's nice when someone holds open a door for me, regardless of gender. As for things like expectations when it comes to dating and things of that sort, I think both genders should put in equal effort to "woo" or "court" a partner. Yes, there are still some things involving gender roles that I think are traditional and still nice, (example, the male being the one to propose in a heterosexual relationship), but hey women are proposing to their boyfriends now, so that's changing too. Point is, I do agree that sometimes girls expect too much out of guys, and even vice versa sometimes. I think the best way to go into a relationship or something similar is to not have extremely high expectations. Yes, it's good to have expectations, but it is kind of annoying when a girl gets really mad or upset if a guy doesn't pay the entire dinner bill or if he doesn't hold the door open. I'm a girl and I definitely find that a little bit annoying. I do realize that there are a lot of different opinions out there, though. I just feel like relationships and interactions with people of interest should be balanced with both people maintaining their own independence while coexisting and equally working towards making the other person happy.

#6608 To all the feminist-haters: I am a feminist, and I'm proud. However, I'd just like to clarify that most of us feminists look down on anyone who uses feminism to try to promote females /above/ males, or the kind of hypocrisy you guys don't approve of. We know that the wage gap is actually pretty much nonexistent, or at least much more difficult to prove than simply looking at women's average wages and men's.

What we don't like isn't men, it's the patriarchy - which establishes things like men having to be super macho and manly and stuff while women have to be pretty and delicate. Both women and men are hurt by the patriarchy, and while no one really expects women to be "docile and a perfect wife" anymore, there are still some existing problems.

Just one example: the whole "nice guy" thing. Yes, we know that there are TONS of guys out there who don't subscribe to this, but we also know that a good amount still do. In this case, there are guys that think that being nice to girls should mean that girls get into a relationship with them, as opposed to the "douchebag." They often forget that yes, GIRLS GET REJECTED SOMETIMES TOO. How would you feel if a girl who's "nice" but you just don't have any attraction to was angry at you for going for another girl who she thinks is a "bitch," but you actually know is pretty nice?

Again, I know very few people actually subscribe to that train of thought, but it's just an example of a problem.

There are plenty of other issues where this comes from - racist feminism, slut-shaming, rape culture, and don't even get me started on girl gamers.

As for me. If you ever talked to me, you probably would never be able to tell that I was a feminist. If you asked, I would agree proudly and probably give you this rant about how those "hypocritical" feminists don't fully understand the movement. I hold doors open for everyone (unless I forget, which happens every month or so), I constantly offer to pay when going out with my boyfriend (though I do believe that whoever has the highest paycheck should pay) and I try to pay him back for the larger sums ($35 for a volleyball tournament, for example). I don't agree that the draft should only affect men. Etc.

This is a lot longer than I planned. TL;DR: Feminists that are "hypocritical" don't fully understand the movement. Feminist support both male and female rights. The wage gap may not be a problem, but there are still others out there. Feminists stand for EQUALITY.
