#8704 I think the real problem with mass shootings lie, not with gun control or mental health but with their media portrayal. Consider that 2.5 million people die every year and that homicides aren't even in the top 15 causes, making gun violence a fraction of a fraction of deaths in the U.S. Fuck, heart disease and cancer are the top two causes and you don't see the media trying to shame fat people the same way they shame gun owners and with vehicle accidents at #5 why don't we try and control who gets to own a car. The media just blows up every shooting that occurs in suburbia but you will never hear about the 200 or so people that will be shot to death in Chicago this summer, which dwarfs every "mass shooting" from Virginia Tech to now. More people have died due to guns in Chicago than troops in Afghanistan. Mass shootings are one of the last of our problems. A mass shooting now and then that is blown out of proportion by the media is nothing compared to the endless inner city shootings that go on all the time.

#8701 UMD Alum: Being a short skinny dude and having both lived in Anacostia, D.C. and Tottenham, London (look it up), I felt safer in D.C. because I knew I had my gun by my side. For all the people that say banning guns reduces crime, it doesn't. People were stabbed, clubbed and shot(criminals don't give a shit about laws, that's why they're criminals!) to death about 5 minutes away from my hostel (yes people can be killed without guns too!). At least in the U.S. I know that if a guy starts running up to me in a dark alley, I can draw my weapon and defend myself. I don't know what kind of fantasies those who propose banning guns have; do you think you're going to disarm your attacker and use their weapon on them like in the movies? or are you going to call the cops and have them show up instantaneously to stop the crime in progress. NO! You're at the mercy of the attacker whether you like it or not, you're gonna get your beating and raping whether you want to or not. Having a gun, for example, my semi-automatic Glock 19, and knowing how to use in defensively, puts your life in your own hands, not that of criminals or the police.

TL;DR: Lived in the shady parts of D.C. and London. People were shot, clubbed and stabbed regardless of gun control. Felt safer in D.C. because with a gun, my life is in my own hands.

I used to be the guy who was out and about flirting with girls just hoping I would get to have sex with them which never worked because they would always want more than that. This was during high school. I completely did a 360 and decided I would look for something real and now well...every girl I try to get a lasting relationship with goes like this: Oh we're good friends/bestie--->Oh now I'm dating this other guy (this is where I cut them off)-->Then months later I get the "hey bestie you wanna have sex? No feelings no kiss just sex and we can act like it never happened" Couple years ago I would be the happiest guy hearing that but now it just crushes me when a girl I view as a potential life partner wants just the physical satisfaction. Is this some new thing where girls are afraid to fall in love so they put these rules on sex and such? I'm dealing with this right now and although I did agree to have sex with her, I'm crushed on the inside because we had the perfect relationship before college but agreed to break up because we were going away to dif colleges. Now we're back this summer both single and I get this whole new "bff who have sex" ordeal.
