Here's something I would like to confess the reason why I'm a realist is because I never enjoyed the finer things in life like having friends and going out on Friday nights. I tried giving people a chance but I always regret that decision so I became cynical and bitter towards people and I still feel like that, I hate having this ego where I think not becoming part of society is cool and thinking living life alone will make me happy. I work for a restaurant that delivers food in Flagstaff. I'm also a student at NAU and this is mostly directed at the freshmen and sophomores, but I've had some issues with the upperclassmen too. You guys really need to learn how to tip. So let me make this perfectly clear for those of you who simply aren't aware of these things:
1: Yes, you are expected to tip delivery drivers.
2: The delivery charge IS NOT A TIP.
3: 1 dollar or rounding up to the next dollar IS NOT A TIP.

When unsure of how much you should tip a delivery driver, use this handy guide:
Absolute minimum you should EVER tip = $2 or 10% of the order (whatever is higher)
-That's only if the driver screwed up your order or was a jerk.

Normal tip = $3 or 15% of the order (again, whatever is higher)
-This is for a normal delivery. the driver wasn't a dick, but he/she wasn't really cool either.

Great tip: $4 or 20% of the order (whatever is higher)
-This is for the divers who are awesome. They greet you with a smile, maybe ask you how your day is going. They don't have to do this, so its really nice to show your appreciation.

If you do the math, you'll find that each base dollar amount and percentage are equal at an order price of $20. So as a rule of thumb, use the percentage for orders over $20, and the base dollar amount for orders under $20.

Now, I know many of us are broke college students, but you have to realize that most of the delivery drivers in this city are also broke college students. When you don't tip, you're screwing them over. They work for less than minimum wage (yep, there is a difference between minimum wage and minimum tipped wage) and expect to get tips to compensate for that.

So as a final note, if you cannot afford to tip at least the absolute minimum, DO NOT order for delivery.
