How is telling women to keep themselves safe if they can to prevent rape being a rape apologist or blaming the victim? Rape is a crime, correct? What are some other crimes that are possibly worse than rape? Murder (which is obviously worse) and kidnapping. How much sense does it make to say, "We should teach people not to murder and kidnap?" Not much, because it implies that most of us will just murder or kidnap someone. Which we won't. If someone plans on murdering or kidnapping someone, do you really think we can just "teach" them not to? When it comes to kidnapping, we don't say, "We should teach people not to kidnap." We tell kids to stay away from strangers, and tell people to stay out of dangerous situations. In other words, we tell them to protect themselves. We understand that murder and kidnap are things that happen, no matter how much we wish they didn't. Does that mean we think it's ok? Of course not. So then why is it ANY different with rape? Implying that people should be "taught to not rape" means that you GENUINELY believe that MOST people(read men) think rape is ok if given the chance. And if you truly believe that about people(read men) you are a really shitty person.
