Is it possible for sleep to make you stupid? Let me explain before you type what you're thinking right now: If I stay up for 24+ hours I become increasingly more alert and conscious until I crash. When I sleep, it's like its totally erased and my IQ drops down again. I'm not aware of my surroundings, I think much slower, and I am a complete dimwit. If I sleep for 6+ hours on a consistent basis that haze more or less remains. But after losing sleep for at least a day or two I go back to being more alert and can communicate better. The problem is, as you might have already guessed, even though that lack of sleep gives me an extra boost of mental energy it takes a toll on my mental health at the same time and I become much closer to having bi-polar episodes, not to mention paranoia. Sometimes I'll even hallucinate.

Does this condition (sleep making you mentally lethargic) have a name?
