If you were told from childhood that you are inadequate, dumb and unattractive, what effect would that have on your self esteem? If you were told these things for reasons completely out of your control, for something you couldn't change even if you wanted to, would you work extra hard to gain acceptance from those critics anyway? Or would you take the easier route and just surround yourself with people who are already accepting of you, and adhere to their customs and lifestyle even though they are looked down upon by the majority of people?

This is how I describe my experience being a black person. I feel that I made the right choice, and my future is bright. So before you judge someone who made the easier choice, imagine how much better things would be if we didn't have to make a choice at all. Imagine already being accepted in the majority of places you will ever go. That's white privilege.
