It seriously appalls me that there are many people who don't know the words to our Alma Mater.

I'm reading "The Bell Curve" and I don't understand why so many people accused the book as being racist and heretical. The whole Jason Richwine controversy was totally blown out of proportion. Group IQ difference is real, which is not controversial in academia and psychometrician circle. What is truly mind boggling is the attack on academic freedom and the prosecution of "thought crime".

There was a post about black women's hair. I feel the same way about gay men's brows. Stop over-tweeting your brows guys! There is nothing more disturbing than drag queen brows on a guy!

This is a response to existentialism. I really think life is meaningless. There will always be someone out there who is better at everything you are remotely good at. I can die tomorrow and the world would not miss me. My parents might but they are pretty powerless people. Just to emphasize my insignificance, if the most important people in this century would never have existed, I think the world would still turn out as it is. If Einstein didn't exist there would still be the theory of relativity, if Lenin didn't exist there would still be the Russian revolution, and if Hitler didn't exist there would still be WW2. The world is too big for anyone of us to matter. The only way for us to live a bearable is to make the best of what we have. To the person in war torn Sub-Saharan Africa who will not be able to go to college, own a house, or maybe even marry, he will need to base his meaning on what is possible for him. I think that is where God comes in. For the people who have nothing, no future, no prospects, they create this imaginary person, God, who gives their life meaning, who tells them they matter, who loves them and gives them a chance for happiness. This is not existentialism since your meaning has shifted to god instead of what is physically in front of you

A grade is important if you want certainty of success. Getting a good grade opens up doors to Ivy League grad schools, internships in big companies, and really high paying jobs like doctor or lawyer. Not getting a good grade means that you have to be creative and embrace risk in order to succeed. Start your own business, write a book, sell yourself in the job market, whatever. Ultimately if you want to make it big you are going to have to risk it all and do something no one has ever done, a grade is totally irrelevant. But if you want a stable life, a good grade means you'll make 50%-100% more than your classmates, which would probably add up to a million over a lifetime, which can be important to some people and pointless to others.
