This is a response to that person who responded to that “bell curve” post. I also replied to him on that post. So, eh… this is probably not anonymous. So I was wondering why all the fuss over the Richwine paper. I went ahead and read it during the long weekend (you know, Asians and our fetish with numbers). And no, I have not read the Bell Curve yet. So I cannot comment on that book.
Guess what? Richwine did not reject a language deficit explanation. The issue was discussed for first-generation immigrants. Now you can argue the issue was not sufficiently addressed, but you cannot assert he rejects it “without any data or factor analysis”. Secondly, language is not an issue for 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th generation Latinos as Richwine noted. Thirdly, Richwine also cited the results for Digit-Span IQ testing. Digit-Span testing does not have much language or cultural components. All you need to know is the 10 digits to do the test. And the results are consistent with other tests. Fourthly, He did not do much “experimental design”. All he did was analyzing existing data. Not sure why you said he did. Fifthly, he did not just use simple tests (or could you tell me where he used simple tests?).
Please do “go on and on” about what else is wrong with the paper, because what you put out here is inaccurate. Now, it seems to me that either you did not read the paper and claimed you did, or that you were so angry with it that you misread it. The only intellectually consistent argument that you made is: IQ is a false construct, which I may or may not agree with. Also, stop citing that Beauchamp article from thinkprogress. I have no problem with author being biased. But that article is just flat-out lying. It is a shame.

One day, I was at the gym and saw President Loh swimming laps at the swimming pool. When I went to the locker room to get my things, I started fantasizing about riding President Loh's penis. I rushed over to my dorm in Oakland and jacked off to the thought of being in his warm embrace... What a man...

If I get a C, my parents get unbelievably angry at me and tell me I will amount to nothing. If I get a B, they are still disappointed and ask if that is really the best I can do. I don't even want to imagine how they would react if I ever failed a class. It's not as if I'm putting off all of my classes and just going out and partying all week.

Being a Christian would be so much easier if you women we're so attractive (I'm not blaming your great looks on my weakness). Here's a quote in regard to this. It's nice. Cephalus: "...I was present...one time when someone asked the poet Sophocles: 'How are you in regard to sex, Sophocles? Can you still make love to a woman?' 'Hush man,' the poet replied, 'I am very glad to have escaped from this, like a slave who has escaped from a mad and cruel master.' I thought then that he was right, and I still think so, for a great peace and freedom from these things come with old age..." I wanted children. But I'll be happy once I have that freedom that Sophocles in his old age enjoyed.

In the eyes of my parents anything less than having a full internship or job is a waste of a summer. They don't even consider how it might take some time after the day of an interview where they both seemed very interested in having me for the actual decision to happen. Hopefully the two follow up emails I sent today will get things moving along.
