#4811 i stayed after class today to express interest to my professor in how i want to enroll in her class, although i am waitlisted at #27. one of the things my professor was bothered about was how "the university of maryland has been very cheap" in the sense that they are trying to "save money and not hire professors at the moment." she furthermore mentioned how that's problematic because every semester, so many students are waitlisted for her class, but UMD doesn't hire any new/qualified professors to prevent 24239482934 students from being waitlisted. i couldn't agree with her any more, and it got me wondering: where the hell does our money really go? like, what happened to the $65 we spent just to APPLY this school (and mind you thousands upon thousands of folks apply)? what's up with our orientation/tuition/boarding fees? the money we spend daily on overpriced diner food? the money we flush down the toilet when DOTS slaps us in the face with a $25 violation fee for accidentally exceeding the parking meter by 2 minutes*? the ~$140-$461 residents/non-residents have to pay just to attain a parking permit? the $86-$4000+ organizers spend when renting the grand ballroom at stamp? surely this money is not being spent on JUST the flowers at the campus entrance circle, right?

*oh and speaking of dots, i would rather happily earn money the illegal way than represent a shitty company like DOTS.

I am also a Business major AND I took the courses you took of which I got A's in.
I also got in as a freshmen but I WANTED to go to a CC first because I prefer it that way because of family/money/personal choices.
I've NEVER looked down on anyone who goes to a CC because honestly that may be the smarter route for them since the elective courses are the same shit anyway- English-101 here is the same English-101 at a CC EXCEPT it's a third of the price. Why put yourself in debt when you could take the cheaper option and be debt free? I would think you would take money into account as a business major but I guess you should be going to umbc…..Which, for the record, is not a bad school.
People at a CC are not “dumb” They may have had other issues going on in their lives. Sorry they didn’t have the same privileges as you! I’ve met some of them who have to support their families working full time and studying while maintaining a 4.0 with 18 credits. I’d like to see you do that at CC or even here…. You cannot for a second think you are a fraction of a percent better than them or anyone else. Your ignorance is bringing down our “elite” factor.

#4804 To #4797, I'm a proud UMD freshman acceptance and i can understand that you had to work hard to get into college park but the hard truth is that you belong to a small few. Most community college kids are simply too dumb to belong to a school like college park. A lot of kids end up getting in simply because of their demographics. The sad truth is that programs like afirmative action and laws about diversity end up making good schools accept dumb, poor community college kids and bringing the ranking of the college down.

It would be much better in my opinoin if we sent all community college transfers to somewehre like umbc so college park remained elite but we cant have everything i guess.

Before anyone goes and attacks me or my position, let me just say that i'm a business major here and i've taken intro statistics and economics courses so i know what i'm talking about. Its just plain numbers. Dumb people bring down the averages plain and simple
