#4835 Looking at issues such as gay rights nowadays, I sometimes worry to what extent they will be pushed. While I'm in support of gay marriage and equal rights, I am also in support of a church's right to refuse to perform a same-sex marriage. Even though everyone says that this will never happen, I'm starting to worry that it will. People said that the "slippery slope" argument for gay marriage wouldn't hold, and there's a group or two out there trying to get pedophilia to hold, comparing it to gay marriage. And if you take back history, and this in no ways reflects my actual views but is simply a scenario, consider that after the end of slavery one said that blacks would never get equal rights, but it eventually did happen in the 60s.

I just worry that what some people say will "never happen" and is "impossible" WILL indeed happen with time, and that we will lose our way as a society, eventually recognizing pedophilia as legal and protected, or for some reason, forcing a church to marry a gay couple under threat of litigation or removing tax exemption (this would violate their religious freedom).

I'm just a mishmash of thoughts right now and this is all very incoherent, but I just worry! The general theme is that I worry that change is inevitable and I'm afraid that what is considered unacceptable today will eventually be considered acceptable.

#4833 I just read two of my facebook friends arguing about gay marriage, and the questionable analogy between that and incest/polygamy inevitably came up. To the shock of nobody, the pro-gay marriage debater says that it's completely different. But I'm struggling NOT to say to him "You know, he has a point. If three or more people want a legally recognized arrangement and each knows what he/she is signing up for, who does it really hurt?"
