#8179 I've tried a few drugs through high school and college, and I knew my mother did in the 60's and 70's. Now that I'm older, I can talk to her about these things. It's really cool because we have hour long discussions about experiences or beliefs regarding what should be legal and what shouldn't. She even admitted to trying heroin. The awesome thing is that she has a PHD and is extremely successful/insightful.
Call me a bad future mother, but I hope to have the relationship with my kids too.

#8176 It makes me so mad when I see COMM majors bragging about their grades, how about some modesty.
1. It is the easiest cop-out major ever.
2. How much studying have you actually done compared to the rest of us with harder majors (probably not even half as much. Everyone knows that you just party instead).
3. It’s embarrassing when you brag about receiving A’s in classes that everyone else gets A’s in as well.
I have never been one to brag about my grades(even when they were awesome), because it just makes people look like arrogant ass holes.

#8174 Hey guys, I need advice. I was raped this past year (but I have gotten help and don't have that incident interfering with my life anymore). I come from a pretty conservative immigrant family, and they would be ashamed of me if I said that what led to it was that: 1) I was out, 2) late at night, 3) at a party, 4) with men I didn't know, 5) and had been drinking. Of course, I know that what happened wasn't my fault. *I* know that I am not to blame. But I want to have a more honest relationship with my parents, where I could tell them about things like this. If I was a parent, I'd want to know if my children were raped. And I'm sure my parents would too. But right now I know that if I was to tell them about it they would be upset with me, pull me out of UMD, and have me going to some local college and living at home again. To them, parties and sexual experimentation and flirting are not a part of "the college experience", but having grown up here, it is a part of what I want for mine. Where they come from, college is where a kid goes to get an education for a job and make their family proud (their family would've been supportive of them and done a lot throughout their lives to help them out beforehand, so it's not terribly unfair for them to expect that). It feels like it'd be a hopeless cause trying to tell them about it. I don't know if telling them would help anything. Maybe I shouldn't tell them, maybe I'll tell them years from now.

Tl;dr: Should I tell my conservative immigrant family about being raped? If I do, how should I go about it?
