#8379 I don't like labels (Democrat, Republican, Feminist, Christian, etc.) which is a large reason why I never wanted to be called a feminist or associated with feminism, even though I agree with the fundamental idea of the movement, which is that men and women are equal and should be treated as such. The reason I don't like labels is because people always associate the label with the most radical people of that group, even though the radicals are not the best representative of said group. Feminism, because of its radical members, has a connotative meaning of hating men, thinking women are better than men, making men beneath women, etc., even though that's not the goal of the movement AT ALL. Still, unfortunately, since that's how people see it, I just can't associate myself with feminism, as people will associate me with those anti-man sentiments, and I do not want to be seen in that light. It's sad that people will think of you as a man-hater if you say you're a feminist when in reality, all it really means is that you care about equal rights for both men and women. Sigh.

#8378 As an Engineering major, I myself have some complaints about the complaints of other Engineering majors. Yes, our classes are often more difficult than those of other majors. It does get frustrating seeing people getting really high GPAs while we are struggling. However, I don't agree with a lot of my fellow Engineers when they say things about how STEM majors should be graded on a different scale because the classes are harder, or that there needs to be a GPA adjustment for STEM majors because the classes are more difficult, yadda yadda yadda. Honestly, I feel like people miss the big picture. Engineering majors can get jobs right out of college even with middle to low GPAs. I know a girl with a 2.0 GPA who has an engineering job lined up after college. Many other majors, like English or Psychology, almost require you to have either a really high GPA, or go to grad school in order to get a good-paying job. (Let me just add that I don't think Engineering majors are any better or smarter because of this; I don't think there's anything wrong with being an English or Psych major, or any other major for that matter). I think people need to look at the tradeoff here. Yes, engineers, our GPAs will likely be lower than that of other majors (likely, not definitely), but just keep in mind that to get a job in our field we don't need as high of a GPA as other fields may require. I just wish Engineering majors would stop feeling so victimized and putting other people down for their GPAs in non-STEM majors and just focus on themselves, because it's giving people like me a bad name even though I don't look down on people for their choice of major.

#8377 This Bowe Bergdahl story is just fucked up on so many levels. Bergdahl was a Taliban/ Afghani sympathizer and deserted his post. Six soldiers died trying to find him. We then negotiate with terrorists, something that goes against everything outlined in our foreign policy. I thought we would have learned from Reagan's Iran-Contra affair. And not only do we negotiate with terrorists, we trade five senior terrorists, who were in Guantanamo because they were a threat to American lives, for this deserter. These are prisoners that soldiers died to capture and ones that could not be released without telling Congress and the American public beforehand. But fuck rules right? Oh and all Obama did was make them pinky-promise that they would not reintegrate with Al Qaeda/Taliban. Give me a fucking break. And then this deserter's dad comes out saying that he supports the release of more prisoners. Guess we know where his son learned to be a traitor.

And the thing that pisses me off the most is that Obama still can't get the marine rotting away in a Mexican prison for gun charges released despite Mexico being a close ally. This whole thing makes America look like a fucking joke. But I guess y'all are OK with all this cuz fuck the military and fuck guns right?

#8376 I hate seeing people complain about the grading system. The majority of the educational system is flawed. The majority of students spend more time worrying about getting a grade that is deemed "acceptable," when they should really be focusing on learning applicable, thought-provoking concepts, in addition to obtaining a good education. It concerns me that the value of education is becoming so standardized, and I honestly have no idea how future generations are going to break this vicious cycle.
