#7080 Even though multiple people have tried to explain it to me, I still don't understand the idea of racial privilege, or at least how it's okay in a modern society. I am white, and thus supposedly have "white privilege". Does having that privilege mean I should behave differently (refrain from saying certain things, give special attention to certain individuals, etc.), and do/not do things that people without white privilege do/don't do? If so, that's racism. It's dictating how I should perceive and interact with the world and people based solely on my race. Not my actions. Not my character. Not based on prior experiences. Just my race. If not, and it's just a label, that's still racist and only serves to segregate people. It's labeling me as different from someone else because of the color of my skin.
Omega- Nobody likes being called privileged. I understand why so many people get offended by the term because they take it as someone saying they didn't work hard for whatever they have accomplished in life. That is not what white privilege means though. It doesn't mean whites have this huge advantage in accomplishing every little thing in life over other races. There are well known phenomena in regards to the way society has and continues to treat racial minorities that white people are generally free from experiencing (racial profiling, being followed in a store, causing property value to drop in neighborhoods they move into). Sure, some white people might experience one or more of these things at some point in life, but this generally occurs mostly with racial minorities due to an attitude society holds towards them which is rooted in racism. Generally white people are free from experiencing these things though so that is where the word "privileged" comes into play. You are "privileged" in the sense that your racial group experiences these things far, far less than others.
It isn't like a "your white, here's a million dollars and the key to our city" kind of privilege, but more of a "oh he's white, let's give him a better interest rate" (which really happens- http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/01/us/01minorities.html?_r=0).
OR
"this guy just got busted for marijuana, but he's white so we'll just give him probation" - The Uniform Crime Report (UCR) backs this generalization. A snapshot of it is available in this Washington Post article that reports the incarceration gap between whites and blacks.
(http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2013/06/04/the-blackwhite-marijuana-arrest-gap-in-nine-charts/) Yes, WP is a liberal leaning news site, but the UCR is a respected FBI publication.
In regards to what you say about treating people differently because of white privilege's "alleged" existence:
The goal is to treat everyone equally, the same- but at the same time be able to acknowledge and act on societies unjust treatment of racial minorities. People do this by adopting policies like affirmative action and taking other measures to limit an institution's ability to discriminate individuals based on race. Some people mistake those measures as special treatment and have gone as far as claiming that it is racist to implement them. That's really not the case, as it is merely an attempt to create a level playing field. It isn't like "oh we treated black people poorly, let's give them a million dollars and the key to our city", but more of a "Oh, we noticed theres no law preventing banks from hiking up interest rates based on someone's race alone, let's do something about that".
Hope this helps :P

#7048 Although this is not a confession I need a way to reach out to hammond and this is a good way to do so. My cat escaped last night/this morning around 4 or 5 I'm thinking. He's a beige cat with white paws and a white belly, he is declawed and has a cute little bob tail. If anyone has seen him please comment on here so I can contact you for his retrieval. His name is Calvin and he's the nicest cat. He's never been outdoors so I'm hoping someone has taken him in if nothing else. Please let me know if any of you see him
Omega - Sorry you lost your cat. Best of luck.

#7094 I confess that, for once in my life, I've had an amazing day. Got the job I wanted after I got interviewed, got a good grade on a test without studying, and my car didn't explode on the way to campus. It's not over yet though, and the guy of my dreams could ask me for hot, steamy sex and a life on the beach... Eh, a guy can dream of the perfect day, right? Lol

#7071 I'm in my late 20's and I've forgotten how to pray. It sounds silly, and there will probably be comments on this about "talking to the imaginary man," but those are the people that don't get it. I used to be so close and so strong in my faith and felt I could pray about anything on my mind. Now I just feel like I'm trying to talk to a distant relative you see every few years and all your interactions are outdated. The truth is, I'm lost. I don't let anyone close to me and anytime someone tries I shut down. I don't feel like there's anyone I can talk to without being judged or condemned and all I want to do is pray and bring it to God, but I can't get over that threshold. Sorry this isn't the juicy sex stories you're used to but it's the truth and something I had to get off my chest.

#7047 Ok so my roommate is rather unusual...for some reason he likes to catch various bugs on campus and ties them down with fishing string under his bed. Is that weird or just me? Yesterday I opened up my drawer to get some underwear and found out he keeps crickets in there..ummm ok..what's next doodle bugs!?!?!
Omega- Idk... but keep him around. I think you might be able to cash in on some serious crime stoppers rewards in the next decade or so.

#7045 Howdy y'all this is Omega
Apparently someone got butt hurt and thought it would be funny to report my Omega profile as being fake. Facebook gave me the ultimatum of either deleting my account or to make a page out of it. I have decided to create a new profile with my REAL information, so if you were my friend before or you want to become my friend on Facebook please add my COMPLETELY REAL AND NOT FAKE AT ALL profile @

#7064 "Well I'd love to have sex with you, but the only thing stopping me is that your bra and underwear are ugly and/or don't match." - no guy ever
Why is this such a big deal to girls?
