#29671 Can the 2019 Commencement speaker be from an underrepresented racial group (Black, Latinx, American Indian) in STEM? As an underrepresented student myself, it would be nice to see someone that looks like me (or if not my race then someone else who is underrepresented) in a super successful/big name position especially if they themselves are a Purdue alum. Tbh it's depressing to rarely see people that look like you and/or share your culture as pioneers in STEM/whatever field you aspire to be in. All I'm saying is that it would be nice.

P.S. Don't be an asshole about this. Especially you "race doesn't matter" folks from the earlier confession. Sorry to break it to you, but to an extent race does matter and if you think it doesn't then congratulations on never having to be forcefully reminded that you're different. Everyone has different experiences, and for some, something like this can mean a lot.
