#29949 Social media gives me the impression that people have very polar views on whether or not you should hit your kid. On the one hand there are those that claim it can be emotionally damaging and on the other hand we have the “this generation of entitled brats should have been hit more” crowd. I can only answer for myself, but whenever my parents hit me, my first reaction was anger and vengeance, not fear or awareness of my wrongdoing. When I got hit I would say “I’ll beat you when I’m older.” Mind you, they never beat the shit out of me, and I wouldn’t say I got hit too bad. I can only imagine I’d have been more vengeful if they beat me badly. I have a great relationship with my parents today and harbor no pent up anger, but all I’m saying is everyone reacts differently to physical reprimand.
