I didn't think I would get so many responses over a simple sentence like that, but I appreciate your opinions. Let me make it clear, I am not an asshole, I do want women to have as many rights as men (women have MORE legal rights than men in the first world). when I said girls that aren't feminists I meant girls that can think for themselves and don't have feminists telling them what to do/how to think/to live their lives in fear.

yes, I know the dictionary definition of feminism, but actions are speaking louder than words. And the actions of modern feminists have been horrible to say the least. Pretty sure there are plenty of good ones out there saying "you are judging the movement by the worst ones." Sorry to smash your umbrella, the worst ones are talking louder.

Some of you even brought religion into the picture, which I believe is an invalid comparison in this context. Because feminism is a movement, it is represented by those running the campaigns, protests, and actually making an impact in the name of the movement rather than the ones sitting silently and aligning their beliefs with the dictionary definition. You may call yourself a feminist, but you are not one as long as you are not supporting the movement or actually doing anything, just like you are not a part of a frat/sor by default if you simply agree with their beliefs or motives.

#14697 I'm so tired of feeling apathetic and self-conscious. From the outside I put on a good image, but I just want to feel something real again. At times I feel happy and confident when I'm with friends, but most of the time I just feel like I am so apathetic. I want to feel childlike excitement, laughter, and love again. How, though?

#14696 I am getting demolished in microbiology. I feel like I'm putting in a decent effort, going/watching all the study sessions, attending the lectures, drawing diagrams, watching khan academy videos if I need a different perspective, etc. and I'm still getting my ass kicked. I'm just not getting it. I get it's suppose to be a difficult weed-out course but holy fuck is aiming for a C- all that greedy?

#14695 Are there any schools that are like community college but give four year degrees? I've been to 4 different schools, two universities and two community colleges in my long trek for a degree. At the community colleges I do amazingly well but at the universities I suck a chode. Primary factors; at universities teachers don't give a damn, no student parking within half a mile of my class, and having to walk another half a mile between classes. I want a school where I can drive my car and park in the lot right in front of the building, instead of having to rely on shitty bus schedules. Then walk inside to class and all my classes are down the hall from each other or at least in a nearby building. This constant bullshit is pissing me off. Teacher refuses to provide solutions to the tests and homework and won't give out any form of class notes. And only offers office hours one hour per week which is in the middle of another class of mine. Worse teacher ever, makes me hate this school.

#14694 I cannot stand being asked if I'm a feminist. When I say no, the inevitable response is "So you don't believe that men and women are equal?" "No, I do." "Then you're a feminist."

I am damn tired of people saying that believing in equality automatically makes you a feminist, no takesies-backsies. You know what that sounds like to me? "Dating a guy makes you straight." No, I'm bisexual. "Nope, you like guys, you're straight." Let. People. Label. Themselves. We aren't yours to claim.

And furthermore, this condescending attitude of "every woman who isn't a feminist is a poor, helpless idiot with internalized misogyny" needs to stop. Taking my earlier analogy a step further, that's like saying that because I have a boyfriend, I'm not only straight, but I'm also a homophobe. There's no middle ground with you people. I'm not a feminist because I got tired of the No True Scotsman mentality that relieves the movement of having to take any responsibility for the things its more radical members do wrong.

You guys have an obsession with your label. You assign it to people who don't want it, you remove it from people who don't behave the way you want them to, and you belittle or outright attack anyone who doesn't identify with it. Stop.
