#20542 To defeat ISIS, the West needs to defeat it's ideology. Any war waged against them needs to be driven by narrative that is resilient enough to endure terror as well be strong enough to unite westerners on a spiritual level.

I say look to the past--the Christian narrative united Europe against centuries of Islamic invasions. It provided courage to fight battles against overwhelming odds and hope in the face of the blackest defeats. Christ was once something very real to ancestors. A god - man that died for us, a Lord that protects us, and a conqueror that will bring us a final victory in this life and the next. The only flaw in this strategy I see is that we are a materialistic culture that's been pampered into apathy with no use for gods, and I doubt our willingness to restore that kind of faith.

Whatever fight with ISIS is coming, the West better believe in something. And that something better be real enough to us to kill and die for. For our sake and our children's sake. Otherwise, we won't win this war.
