#20557 I am from an immigrant Asian family who moved to the West Coast about 15 years ago. And, I have been subject to racist jokes through my middle school and high school. So, I know what I am talking about when it comes to racism and let me take the opportunity to give my 2 cents.

Purdue has never made me feel less safe than it does now. With all the hatred spreading across campus because few students decided to dig mountains out of molehills and manufacture a problem of inequality and racism.

No, I am not saying that the University is perfect in its policies on admissions, hiring, diversity etc.,
Yes, we could definitely improve the proportion of minority students on-campus. But, I haven't seen a more inclusive college campus anywhere else. I have been in classes where I was the only Asian in a class of 50 students and never felt out of place. And, we are currently spending so much time trying to be politically correct that we get nothing done. In fact our current political correctness is destroying our higher education system in the name of diversity. Particularly on college campuses, you can see how this over-bureaucracy of manufactured problem leads to higher tuition, lower standards in this video.

I plead the Purdue Administration not to budge to these demands and make radical changes which can lead to increase in tuition to all of us. But, Please gradually increase minority representation on-campus.

#20555 Many of my friends have become an online social activist recently, but I see no other difference in the way they conduct their lives offline. Spreading awareness on worthwhile issues is good, but the end goal should be some kind of physical action to influence the change you desire right? Otherwise it seems like some of my friends are doing it because it is a trend.

#20554 Where the hell are we going to find 20-30% more qualified scientists and engineers among the minorities? God forbid we expand our other programs. Are we trying to throw our academics down the shithole?

#20553 I couldn't help but laugh at the demands made to Mitch Daniels. A comprehensive racial awareness curriculum? Revising the free speech policy to address hate speech in person and social media? What the fuck do you want, a full blown investigation because someone said mean things about/to you on Facebook? A 20 percent and 30 increase in underrepresented faculty and students respectively. And these are just a few. Purdue accepts students and hires faculty based on merit and experience, not color. Statistically speaking, many minorities are underrepresented because despite making up a decent percentage of the US population, a lot of them don't meet the academic requirements to get into Purdue. A lot of the time it's because of the situation/environment they grow up in, so how about instead of worrying about affirmative action we work on giving those students an equal opportunity to get into Purdue based on their qualifications instead of just accepting them because they're a minority. Trying to meet these demands would lower the quality of education and destroy the reputation Purdue has academically.

#20552 I'm aware that there are fucked up things that still exist with race and it sucks. At this point as a white guy, I just try to do my part and treat everyone with respect in general. White privilege exists, I don't always agree to the extent some people use it but that's a convo for another time. Onto the Daniel's nonsense. I don't agree with everything he said and I don't agree with everything our students are saying. Yeah he made some kinds of weird and out of line comments. Yeah we could benefit as a campus for some diversity focused groups. But someone went on to say Daniel's didn't get a speeding ticket because of white privilege? Lol no, it's because he's more important than us.

#20551 We Americans are lucky. We were born here, and therefore have no reason to be booted out or prevented entrance into this country. This is quite a safe country for us and we can live pretty comfortable lives. The refugees on the other hand come from a country torn by war and violence, attempting to escape said war and violence. They just want to be safe, and in searching for safety, they look to countries like the U.S. yet we turn them away because of our cowardice and xenophobia. So, they're essentially stuck in a hole that they cannot escape.

#20550 To the admin - you really should watch what buttons you push...
Admin- Sup Bitch
In all seriousness you could have been less vague

My two biggest fears in life are...
1. Dying alone.
2. Hurting anyone.

The problem becomes, that because I fear hurting anyone, I don't want to get into a relationship that I don't think will last. But if I look for the things in a girl that I look for, I'll be searching for a while, and will maybe never find the right girl. But I don't want to settle. I just don't know. It all goes in cycles...
