#22998 Honestly, I'm just now realizing that all the mistakes I've made and things I've done wrong have led to me being alone. I have some great friends but I recently lost the person I care about the most due to my own past actions and it hurts. It hurts more than anything I've experienced before and it's been taking a serious toll on me. I guess the point is that I think people should start being grateful for what and who they have in their lives and stop focusing on the negatives because nothing good comes of it.

Alright before you start categorizing me as a racist, xenophobe, Let me tell you that I am son of Asian immigrants who worked hard to come here and make a life for themselves. I know all the sacrifices they had to make to give us(me and my brother) the American dream. But, I think ones' integrity is too big a price to pay.

Why am I going about this rant?
I am tired of watching Asian students cheat their way through college. Well, I am not jealous. In fact, I wouldn't care much in courses that don't use relative grading. But, if the word gets out, what does that do to Boilermaker image? If we are categorized as school where cheating is allowed/rampant, our degree loses all its value overnight. So, I urge fellow Boilermakers to discourage cheating in courses even if it means making some enemies by reporting them.

I am not saying American students don't cheat. But, for whatever reason, the proportion is higher in Asian students than in American students. I think the reason is Americans typically pay for college with their student loans or hard earned money and know the value of the education while some Asians consider this privilege as their rumspringa and spend their time(and parents' hard earned money) trying to enjoy life with costly cars. Or maybe, there is a network of US college assignments through the popular chinese search engine, Baidu. This easier access and reduced risk of getting caught because Baidu is in a different language could increase the chances that someone might cheat Or, it could be just the ignorance of the consequences of cheating which American students are made aware of during high school.

Confession: I think, contrary to the popular stereotype, a significant portion of current crop of Asian immigrants who come from third world countries are actually lazy. Am I a racist? America is the land of opportunity for the determined not for freeloaders.

But, I am nit picking such posts and Purdue makes sure it only admits the most successful candidates from international schools who proved their calibre through the same standardized test that their American counterparts take, SATs, ACTs and AP exams. Right? Well, what if I told you there is a culture of cheating even there?

Alright. Its only a problem when there is a solution.. I urge Purdue to come up with rigorous testing for new admits. I don't care if it is interviews or individual tests before offering admission. But, please disregard the SATs as American students are at a disadvantage since their foreign counterparts have the chance to cheat on the SATs.
