Don't hold doors open for the spoken gratitude. Just do it because it's the right / polite thing to do. I like to just see people smile and maybe or maybe not appreciate the gesture. In the end, it's just a door after all.

I wish someone would just split buying fruits/veggies with me and I wouldn't feel so bad when they went bad. But my roommates actually eat all of theirs, and it makes me feel unhealthy even though I cook 75% of what I eat. :/
