Yesterday, on the phone with my mom, I told her how I had been going to gym a few times a week. I've really been trying to lose a few pounds a picked up last year. My mom, who is quite a bit heavier than I am, started to get really frustrated with me and tell me how she wishes that I would stop obsessing over my weight. She told me that I have no room to talk to her about wanting to lose a few pounds when I am so much smaller than she is. "It really bothers me when people that weigh less than me bitch about how big they are." Most days I can take this from her, but yesterday was not that day. I told her that every single person has insecurities about their bodies. And the fact that I want to lose ten pounds is no different than her wanting to lose 80. Just because I am smaller than she is does not mean I feel any more comfortable in my body than she does in hers. For God's sake we all have our problems. We all have our own insecurities. We all have our own weaknesses. And who are you to judge someone else because their problems are "lesser" than yours? Stop judging people for what stresses them out. Everyone has those ten pounds, it just might look different to you.
