#2494 I think everyone should watch pro sports. Sports are global and in my opinion it is one of the best places for unity among people of all kinds. On a sports team, people of different backgrounds work together as a team to bring home a win for millions of fans that are also of different backgrounds. Players are chosen for skill alone and fans cheer for their respective teams’ athletes for the love of the game regardless of what race the athletes are. Fans of diverse backgrounds join together in support their favorite team. The only hatred comes from spirited rivalries between teams and that’s all in the name of the game.

Yo. Baseball players who are posting on here: if you don't want to be painted in such broad strokes, take responsibility for your reputation. I get it. "not all" of you are bad guys. But some of your brothers have done horrendous shit, and the team's bystander culture has allowed it to persist.
That is what's being called out. Own it. As a team.
Macalester is unlike other colleges in its commitment to sexual assault education. Still, this is not enough. Like any endeavor, you have to want to be better. To change. You are in a position where there are countless resources available to you. Captains, reach out to the Title IX coordinator. Set up trainings for your team-including coaches and other staff. Reach out to the DML, Green Dot, and the Allies project. More than that, make a point to show up as a team to support and learn from the many panels and discussions on and by marginalized populations (when appropriate and in accordance with the wishes of those who organized said panels). This is not an exhaustive list. There are other resources available, too. I'm sure some of you do this already.
This isn't to say one little training is going to fix the team's mindset. There are plenty of predators who masquerade under the guise of sex positivity, feminism, and allyship. You're going to have to earn your place over and over again. That shouldn't discourage you from doing the right thing. Think of it like a dare. Constantly ask yourself: Who am I doing this for? For me? Or for those who are hurt by assault?Above all, don't work towards fixing your reputation so much as work toward seriously changing the culture of your team. Rant: over.

in the last 11 days, i've only been sober/ not on drugs for 3 of them. i've watched dozens of my friends and floormates deal with drug problems at this school. the administration knows it's an issue but doesn't do anything about it. not to say that my fuckups are their responsibility, but when students are overdosing and even dying, at what point does macalester need to acknowledge the fucking problem?
