I have seen many posts on here talking about hook-up culture, both criticizing and defending it. As someone who has been (and I guess continues to be) a participant in hook-up culture, I have some things to say. There are reasons to criticize hook-up culture. Random hook-ups can be emotionally unfulfilling and sometimes they become things we regret. And on our teeny-tiny campus can lead to very awkward moments. Hook-up culture is promulgated by a society that is making money off of telling us that we need to have sex, and be in a relationship, and look good, and please others. Hook-up culture is also intimately tied with rape culture. And this culture can cause us to have a warped view of ourselves self-esteem wise and of what a real healthy relationship should be. However, these criticisms are about the hookup culture as a system and they shouldn’t be criticisms of people that participate. So if you don’t go out and hook-up, good for you, but don’t feel like you’re better than everyone else and don’t slut shame or victim blame people. And if you are a part of hook-up culture, don’t feel bad about yourself. Hook-ups are a normal part of college. And they can be lots of fun. Perhaps hook-ups aren’t the ideal model for a healthy relationship, but the standard of monogamous relationships is archaic and just because a relationship is monogamous doesn’t mean it’s healthy. We’re all young and we’re allowed to make mistakes, including having lots of random sex. We learn and grow and figure out the world by making mistakes and participating in hookups may be how we learn to navigate relationships. tl;dr: Hook-up culture as a system has a lot of problems, but don’t blame or shame people for their actions.

There is a really cute violinist who I believe is not in Orchestra, but practices in Bergendoff from time to time. I want to know who he is!

To the guy in PepsiCo who was going to get abs by: 1. using the medicine ball as a pillow and 2. by laughing really hard, I just want to let you know that if it wasn't socially unacceptable to laugh at jokes from people you don't know while doing fire hydrants I would have been laughing my head off. I thought you were witty and amusing. Thanks for adding some humor to my work out.
