While I am miffed that ASC spends our money on campus decor, etc., I am almost more annoyed that Jake Vanier was walking in front of me (a woman, btw) the other day and let both doors slam in my face instead of holding them open for me.

I kind of feel like a fraud here. I became a nonbeliever during my sophomore year here, but I still do not know why I am still here. Maybe I have just settled into the apathy, or maybe I just would rather not change settings. I do not know what to do.

I think ASC should spend 70 grand on a bronze sculpture of a pile of bullshit. Literal bullshit. So we can say we're the school that spends money on bullshit.

ASC this year has been just as much of a letdown than any year prior. With things like the Bruin Grounds scandal and the bronze bear statue coming to mind, ASC doesn't have a great standing reputation. I personally have not felt represented and have been constantly met by a clique group of students who seem to believe they can run their "dog and pony show" however they want. Usually this manifests in a lack of communication and in turn a lack of trust from students. Recently the vice president of finance stepped down due to personal reasons. She gave them two weeks to find a replacement. In a recent Crescent article, ASC President says that they were not limited to hiring internally. But as you guessed it, the opening was not made public and to no ones surprise, they hired internally. The ASC president is quoted saying that they did "seek out potential candidates but the top candidate was already in ASC." That is a really concerning quote and perfectly illustrates the lack of communication and the veil of "transparency" that ASC touts. The vice president of finance position is an elected position. It would only makes sense that if this position were to become open that the student body should be informed. I, and many others, are so completely fed up with ASC. Maybe if they spent less time remodeling their offices and bankrolling dances they would be able to see the community culture they are creating. As V for Vendeda once said, “Our masters have not heard the people's voice for generations and it is much, much louder than they care to remember.”
