I'm voting for Jon for homecoming king because he seems like the only candidate who isn't taking this competition very seriously. It's not the end of the world if you lose, people! That's why he has my vote, I feel like he doesn't give a shit.

Here's the thing about homecoming week. It's unavoidable.

We all vote for our peers and friends to be on a royalty court that has no meaning or validity except for bragging rights. There may be a long-standing "reign" or "tradition", but in the end, it still comes down to whomever runs the best campaign. Cookies, mints, hot chocolate, sidewalk dance parties, lemonade, compliments, flyers, kazoos, hugs, lots of candy, and high-fives are used as A FEW of the incentives to run these successful campaigns. Aside from the sidewalk campaigns are games and activities (i.e. Yell Like Hell and the Medallion search) to further an organization's points to "win" homecoming. All of these things happen right in front of us all week, leading up to coronation on Friday at Varsity Night Live and the football game (and BMB performance on Saturday).

Therefore, my confession is, if you don't like it, CHILL OUT. College classes are hard enough to deal with on a week-to-week basis, so why must you go out of your way bring down the people who want to put some effort into a positive, feel-good release from the stresses of being a student in the worst possible time to BE a student in this economy? If a little thing like a homecoming celebration is really enough for you to get so upset with the people providing you with free food, drinks, etc., you have bigger problems in this world, and a little lightening up and school spirit might do you a little good. However, if you REALLY feel like you must avoid the campus mall, I suggest taking the long way around in walking to class. The leaves are changing all around town, and you could clearly use a little fresh air and beauty in your life.

Get over yourselves, and may the best candidates win. Happy homecoming, fellow Blugolds.

I'm supporting Elliott for Homecoming. Let's be honest, it's because he's in the BMB, and they draw more people to Eau Claire than any other organization. Support the BMB!
