#4323 I seriously cannot stop thinking about this, and i have to get this off my chest:

So I work retail and everyday girls and women of all ages walk out of the fitting room, look at themselves in the mirror and instead of seeing how great they look in their outfit, they ask whether they look fat, or they talk trash about their thighs, come up with various complaints about their perfectly nice figures.
It used to drive me nuts because all day I'd constantly have to tell them "You're not fat, you look killer in those jeans" and I wasnt lying- if something actually doesnt work on somebody's figure then I show them other styles that will work for them and make them feel amazing.

I get so sick of women complaining about "body issues" that don't exist, but I don't blame them for their fears and anxieties- they don't make up these problems with their bodies out of nowhere.

today the amount of media the average person takes in is unprecedented. We need to start thinking about the messages we are taking in. Television ads want you to feel bad about yourself so you buy their products to make yourself better, to become something somebody else is telling you to be.

I mean the majority of the media is owned by less than a handful of corporations, all of which have their own agenda (to make money)- they control everything on their networks from the show content to the commercials.

The "media" tells women they will be powerful when they fulfill an impossible standard of sex appeal. RIDICULOUS!!
Women, don't measure your worth by whether your body and appearance are appealing enough to attract a partner.

And this isnt just a problem for women:
Men, the media wants you to question your masculinity, make you believe you arent powerful, masculine or successful enough as you are.

SO, now when I'm helping a customer in the fitting room I assure her that her fears arent real, that she looks amazing in the outfit she picked out... And tthen I challenge her to consider this next time she speaks badly about her body, and this advice goes to you men as well:

If we spent a tenth of the time we spend worrying about ourselves (whether its our appearance or our power) and put it towards thinking about how we can make the world a better place, then we'd live much happier lives.
