You might like to think that because you are projecting what comes naturally to you as a human being: a lust for control... or rather greed for power over other's lives.

You know what it's like to have a lust for power; we all do in some form, mild or extreme.

Yeah, some people go on a power trip and get off on this sort of thing, but that's certainly not the majority of groups who like to "preach" about what is right vs what is wrong. A "structure" like the Catholic church has proved excellent fodder for this sort of accusation.

Sure those who preach may ultimately be selfless out of self-interest but the great wisdom of the ages is precisely that: selflessness is the greatest thing you can do for yourself.

Realize though that it's not because of anything THEY will get in this life from YOU, but for the satisfaction in doing the work- that they fulfilled their part to the best of their ability for the grandest purpose of all.

The point is, when you're tempted to say "don't tell me how to live my life" I beg you pause and simply grow curious as to the WHY and not the what. Im tired of my suite mate (we are guys) leaving such dirty messes behind in the toilet and in the shower.
