This girl I'm taking to told me this and it changed a lot for me.
All of those awful relationships when you were treated like shit? All the effort that was in vain that you put in? All the time you wasted? Will make you appreciate when you do find someone who will treat you right. All the small things that would be considered average becomes something you appreciate in full and wouldn't have even thought about it if it weren't for that person that used to beat you, the one that used you, that cheated and lied to you or was never there for you.
So my advise? Don't spiral when those relationships happen; it was worth it for when you find the right person. And don't treat new relationships like shit because that's how your past went down, if you think about it this way it's easier to do the opposite when you find the right one.
My confession? The girl who told me this will be the first in years (really I just mean the first) that I can apply this to, and for once I think it'll be okay.
