#27597 I think I am going to have to give up on trying to get my father to understand me. By this I mean how that parent that always know exactly how you're thinking or can anticipate how something will affect or how to help without having to ask how they can help. He is only able to understand things from his point of view and only his. He is utterly incapable of putting himself into my shoes. He is just so relaxed because he has no major health issues, doesnt have a mortgage anymore (owns his house in total), he loves to have parties and never stresses about anything until its an issue.
I am the polar opposite in terms of personality. I plan for everything, by this I mean contingency plans, major events or major parts of my life changing. With recent occurrences in the political arena healthcare stuff I am majorly concerned because of how much it can affect me to the point that if I have to I am fully ready to move overseas to get the coverage I need. I show the CBO reports to my father but he insists how its going to help me where the direct clauses would screw me over and its not even hidden in the language, its just out there in the open. His response "Well we at least HAVE to repeal the ACA, then we can worry about how to replace it". I keep showing him direct releases from the government, the raw reports, not news articles but he still denies there is anything wrong.
I only visited him twice a month when he had time off from work when I was younger so him and I have never been really close. We appear to be close on the surface but on the stuff that matters, understanding each other and knowing what is critical in the persons life. I keep trying to bring him to understanding this stuff about me but he doesnt take it seriously. This is one of the biggest sources of stress and anxiety; the political stuff and the plans no longer stress me because hey, I have plans ready to go whenever I need to. I dont want to give up but I keep putting in the work but not being met with any real effort on his part and why should I be the one to put in all the work when he didnt even really raise me, it as my grandfather that did that.
Ive already reduced my effort big time and its already helping quite a bit. I hate saying this but I am happy to give up. Why should I put in all the effort to improve the familial relationship if they wont put in any real effort? I am really envious of those who have involved parents (in terms of developing the relationship into a more adult relationship and being equals) and parents are active participants in their lives.
I know there are those that will try to insult the situation because hey we are all adults here. I just wanted to have a better relationship with my parents, with my family and I cant put in any more effort, I have put in all the effort I can since early high school. I am done. They want to be close then it's time for them to put in the effort. At least I am feeling better now.

#27594 I move next Friday and I'm seriously counting down the days... right now it's 1am, and I'm sweating my ass off, I woke up because a fucking gnat flew in my mouth, and from coughing it up, the owners dogs started barking, all 3 of them... also I have to leave the window open because no matter how much air freshener I spray, the stench of doggie residue - their own sweaty smell, their shit, and their piss, lingers all the damn time... like how the fuck on earth do you let your house fall to shit like that... I try to make it better, but there's only so much i can do :/ I almost feel bad for the dogs, except they have free run to do pretty much anything they want.

#27592 Hey all, I wasn't sure of the best way to get this out there, but I think this would be a good start.
I'm transferring to Purdue this fall as a junior engineering student. I'm looking to get involved on campus, particularly clubs that will get me more hands on experience, so robotics, programming, etc. Is there a site I can go to to find these clubs?
