#27813 So I see lot of people not getting my point and quoting a particular portion from sentence without reading till the end! In research groups there are lots of people from different background, even I am also an international student! But when you are stuck at something where you are working with another person and you both dont know how to solve it, then you ask someone else to help you out. And because the 'helping' person does not speak my native language decides to solve the problem and make it understand to the fellow labmate. When I ask something in English they just ignore, as if they are deaf or don't understand English. Then you feel left out of the project because now it is them who are working in group! Now you tell me people, what would you feel? I hate the situation, their not-understanding behavior, not them as persons.

#27812 This past summer I had a crush on a girl that worked at AJ's. I still think of her sometimes. We had a handful of small conversations. But I don't even know her name. I saw her the other day and it honestly made my day because I thought I'd never see her again. And before you say anything, yes I did ask her out. Only to find out she has a boyfriend :(

I am an international graduate student and want to ask something:
So if there are two people in a work environment (say a research lab discussing/struggling with an experiment or figuring out an algorithm, I am one of them and we have English as the only common language!) Now a third person comes along and the other two people happen to have another common language which they feel more comfortable discussing and solving the problem in. So they go ahead and solve the problem conversing in the language they are confortable with (I am okay until this point since it's about solving the problem!). Now there are two ways things can go from here,
(1) They tell me briefly how the solution was found in ENGLISH
(2) They ignore me completely and continue to the next step!
I feel it's not okay to follow step (2), not ethical and does not follow the standard code of a research environment! It's okay to talk research in any language you want, as people said, it's a free country and we are nobody to have a say what language one speaks. But at the same time is it not one's obligation to bring someone to the same page when people are working in a collaborative work? What do you guys feel?

#27808 I have been losing weight quite a lot recently despite no change in my diet. So this week I did some blood work to try to figure out what's going on. Now I just got a call from my doctor and he said he wanted to discuss the result next week! I am freaking out because they don't give me the result but instead having to wait through the weekend.What if I'm dying??

#27807 I hate it when a group of people talk in their native language in front of others, who dont understand that language all the time in a graduate level research lab! They don't even bother if you are irritated or asking what's going on!!! Why have you even come to US if you prefer to talk in your native language in work environment??? At least show some respect to others if you don't have it in your mind. This kind of behavior is not expected in a research lab in Purdue.
