I've been struggling with anxiety and I know a girl who has talked about her own experiences and was thinking about asking her for advice. On the one hand, I never talk about that sort of thing outside of good friends bc it's heavily frowned upon in our culture and to me talking about it means I'm good friends with someone... but on the other, she's relatively open about it. I just don't know if I'd be crossing a line from person-I-know to friend, and I'm not good at making friends either way.

My experience doesn't invalidate the experience of others. If something traumatizes a person, then I don't have the right to tell them to suck it up. Telling someone they don't know what real problems are and that they aren't allowed to be sad makes me just as bad as some of the people who hurt me.

Don't continue the cycle of abuse, people. If someone being upset about something that you don't think is that bad makes you angry, that is literally your problem and it is something I recommend you work on for your own sake. Having the ability to invalidate the experience of others indicates that you have the ability to invalidate your own experiences as well. I'm speaking from experience. It's not healthy, and you deserve to heal.
