#9616 I just wanted to bitch about widespread chess ignorance for a second. In Hicks, with the big tabletop chessboard, remember: WHITE ON RIGHT. There's a white square at the bottom right (right side, closest to you). Black square is on the left. Also. QUEENS OCCUPY THE SQUARES OF THEIR OWN COLORS. Thus, white queen occupies the middle white square (specifically, d1), and the black queen occupies the middle black square opposite the white queen (specifically, d8). So, if you're the white player, the pieces closest to you (called the "first rank") go, left to right: rook, knight, black bishop, queen, king, white bishop, knight, rook. If you are the black player, they are, left to right: rook knight, black bishop, king, queen, white bishop, knight, rook. There ya go.
Also, in Founder's park, only two of the four tables with chessboards inlaid with marble are even theoretically playable (assuming you don't have your own chairs). What the fuck were they thinking?
Sincerely, a guy who loves to play chess
