#13871 Every time I bring up the topic my white friends would raise their brows in surprise and denial. Like, "racism is thing of the past ugh". Anybody who read last two days' exponent should be able to see how racist, narrow minded and ignorant some Boilermakers have become.

#13866 I want to join a group next semester where I can form strong friendships. But, most of the clubs I have gone to are ones where "2 meetings per semester are required" and people just join the club so they have some leadership to add to their resume. It is hard to form lasting friendships in these clubs.

any suggestions? thanks!(doesn't have to be major related, fun clubs are great also!)

#13865 Let's start off. I'm a minority. I don't think it reflects well on minorities in general when we resort to attacking people who don't agree with us. Truth be told, the Ferguson case is far from definite and for some reason everyone seems to think Michael Brown was innocent. Three guys wrote in letters to the Exponent and said they believe the police officer was right, and though some of their opinions were misinformed, they were able to back up most of their claims with statistics. However, our director of the BCC responded by calling them "vile and disgusting creatures" and then ranted on how "preferential treatment of minorities doesn't exist" and basically any opinion that does not agree with minorities is biased and the Exponent lacks journalism standards for publishing such opinions. As a minority myself, preferential treatment does exist, lets not kid ourselves here. And the Exponent as a newspaper has done the right thing by publishing these opinions. We should encourage civil debates, attacking people who have different viewpoints because of different backgrounds is not the answer. Let's respect their opinion, just like we ask them to respect ours.

My confession: I need more people (specifically other girls) to train with!

#13863 I need someone to take a picture of the CHM 256 extra credit question she have us on Friday. I know it's the C portion of the page, I just cannot find my copy.

My confession: I am freaking out about this exam.

#13862 I'm supposed to be studying for finals. Instead I've learned more about the Aral Sea, Doggerland, the Qattara Depression, ancient filling of the Black Sea basin, Salt-Dome sinkholes than math or science. Nobody dictated which material to study.

#13861 To the commenters to #13810 post... All I have to say is WOW.. Wow no regard to how this minority feel, about being scared because statistically speaking he IS more likely to be killed by cops. "Go live under a rock", "go to North Korea".. Like who raised you? where are, at the very least, your manners and respect. you were so quick to pass judgement that you didn't even take the time to even try to get to understand why this person felt this way. I'm a minority female at this institution and its tasteless and hurts my hearts that you all felt this way. Why not feel scared of a system that's supp to protect you but has its predisposition that you are already a criminal. That if he/or she moves the wrong way he may be the next victim or national news. I for one was pulled over after a party because "I left an establishment that was serving alcoholic beverages" I did not drink at all that night, so you telling me because I left a place that served alcoholic beverages "I deserved to get pulled over and submitted to a breathalyzer AND field sobriety test after I specif told the officer I had nothing to drink and he could not smell any alcohol or no presence of alcoholic containers in my car. I've whitnessed my uncle get constantly harassed and handcuffed for sitting on his own porch. Yes I am scared for the safety of the minority men as well, but I guess since these situations does not apply to you so everybody else just needs to get over it. Right?! I am appalled at the comments under #13810 post. And to the person that submitted the post, please do not let the ignorance of the student body and comments hinder you in being a great individual, because there are many more out there who feel for you..
