Breastfeeding is an important step to proper tongue posture. Bottle feeding is NOT the same as breastfeeding. The child will not place his/her tongue on the roof of his/her mouth. Likewise, mouth breathing ruins tongue posture. PLEASE WATCH YOUR CHILD FOR ANY EARLY SIGNS OF MOUTH BREATHING. Baby food is terrible as it requires no chewing. Once your child has baby teeth make sure they get plenty of raw veggies, fruits, and other chewy foods in order to stimulate jaw growth. Malocclusions such as overbites and underbites began when the human race discovered agriculture. We weren't designed with soft foods in mind. Did young children in the old days have blended baby food? No. They had to learn to carefully chew their food. This is why wisdom teeth no longer fit our mouths. Our jaws are not growing like they used to. If your child mouth breathes and/or develops an overbite/underbite/crossbite begin treatment ASAP (Too late and your only option will be jaw surgery). NEVER let an orthodontist or dentist pull adult teeth. Your upper or lower jaws do not outgrow each other/come in different sizes. That is stupid genetically and is not seen in other animals that follow their natural diets. Rather, one jaw or both jaws simply did not catch up with the other. In other words, the smaller jaw needs to be expanded forward to meet the other. The larger jaw does NOT need to be shrunk and pulled back. This will cause airway/breathing problems like sleep apnea, posture problems, and possible headaches/anxiety/low self-esteem in your child. Find an orthodontist who will place a palate expander in your child's mouth/and any other devices that will help your child's face grow FORWARD properly. Your child will breathe better, have better posture, and honestly look better/more attractive/balanced. You can find articles supporting this online. My mother could not breastfeed and I was bottle fed growing up. I also had an orthodontist who pulled my face back and did not bother to fix my overbite (Really she couldn't because my jaws were mismatched from the start). I currently wear a mouth guard to help relieve tension in my mouth at night. I have a device that is retraining my swallowing patterns as well. I spend a shit ton of $$$ on physical therapy for my back. They were how I first found out about my jaw problems. When I held my lower jaw out with popsicle sticks in place in my mouth, I gained 100% mobility in my arms and my pelvis relaxed into neutral. I am afraid I will have to save money for jaw surgery someday. I'm fugly, suffer from back pain, anxiety, and I have tons of other issues. Don't let your child be like me. Thank you, that is all.
