I'm not sure how they came up with this number, and I know it varies state-to-state, but $49000 a year is a lot of money. People that need this much probably don't know how to prioritize and insist on getting things that are luxury like cable tv, internet, the newest phone, a computer, etc. I just graduated with a degree in industrial engineering and am starting out at 55k a year. Someone is really trying to tell me that I, someone with a college education, only deserve 6k more than a burger flipper? Sorry you made the mistake of having a child before you can support yourself and him/her, but if you're going to raise the minimum wage that significantly, I want a raise as well. I'm all for raising minimum wage, but that's absolutely ridiculous.
