#20411 I whole heartedly stand behind the whole #blackatpurdue and #boilersofpurdue movement as a white, conservative, country student. BUT. Forcing the university to hire more ethnically diverse faculty or accept more ethnically diverse students is complete and utter bullshit. We should fire a good teacher strictly because they're white in order to hire an ethnic professor who may not be as good as the original professor? We should deny white students who worked their asses off in high school to get a good gpa and SAT/ACT scores in order to accept an ethnic student who had a lower gpa and sat score? I understand you'll say white privilege is why the student had better grades, but it's still a fact they deserve to get in because of their grades. It's not the university's fault that white privilege leads to African American high school students having a harder time excelling in school, the university is there to accept the people with the best grades who have the best chance to succeed. Yes racism exists, and we need to end it, but to force the university into a corner to hire and accept more racially diverse students and faculty is unfair to people who worked their asses off to get into an already difficult to get into school.
