I don't feel like I learn anything from having to listen to someone 2-3 times a week talk about stuff I just read in the textbook. Then every month to just barf that stuff up on an exam.
I just feel like I'm not learning anything from this. I would like to actually do SOMETHING in class other than take notes and exams. I would like to actually apply the information I'm learning to something.

All vertebrates (mammal, bird, fish, amphibian, reptile) and now, it has been discovered, many invertebrates in the shellfish category feel pain, fear and certainly do suffer when slaughtered, no matter how “humanely”. Because of this, vegans avoid animal use, because the industries that exploit them (food, clothing, entertainment etc) often neglect the animal or abuse it.
Bacteria, plantlife and other living organisms that lack a central nervous system do not feel pain, fear or any of the other emotions associated with sentience. Plants do react to damage, but this is an environmental response, and not one out of pain or fear.
