The reason vegans avoid animal use is because they suffer. All vertebrates (mammal, bird, fish, amphibian, reptile) and now, it has been discovered, many invertebrates in the shellfish category feel pain, fear and certainly do suffer when slaughtered, no matter how “humanely”. Because of this, vegans avoid animal use, because the industries that exploit them (food, clothing, entertainment etc) often neglect the animal or abuse it.
Bacteria, plantlife and other living organisms that lack a central nervous system do not feel pain, fear or any of the other emotions associated with sentience. Plants do react to damage, but this is an environmental response, and not one out of pain or fear.

Girl who was worried because she's NBK at 19: having a boyfriend doesn't magically make life rule. Develop your own interests and a decent core group of friends (even if it's 1-2 people) and then when you meet someone interesting, you'll already have plans to invite them to. "Hey, I'm going climbing this weekend, wanna come?" Or if you like horses you could do whatever it is horse people do (tip cows? ogle pickup trucks?). Then if they are interesting people they will have stuff for you to try, too, which you can add to your interests even if you don't keep talking to that person or whatever. And if your interests include masturbation, well, have I got some good news for you...

So, there's this girl. I am really into her, either she doesn't know it or doesn't want to. She is single and getting dragged around by this guy who really isn't that into her. He just uses her and I hate it but she always seems to not even really realize I'm here. When I met her she was super fun and told me to go with her which was amazing! Now it's a struggle to even get the time of day it feels. Think I should tell her how I feel or just get over it? I think she gets a lot of male attention.
