#25058 I wanted to put a word in about the handful of service dogs that are working on campus. I am one of those people who requires one of these amazing dogs and just wanted to see if I could clear up some things about them around the school. When you see a handler and their dog walking, whether the dog has their vest on or not, PLEASE ALWAYS ASK TO PET OR INTERACT WITH THEM. Though they are not easily distracted it can be difficult to get anywhere when people are constantly calling to them, reaching out to them, or trying to pet them when their handler is not looking. It may not be obvious what the dog's job is for the handler and could only add stress to the handler if people are constantly reaching for their dog. I cannot speak for every handler on campus, but there are appropriate times to ask to interact with the dogs. It never hurts to be polite and ask. As a dog person myself I understand the want to be close to the dogs, I too miss my parents dogs at home. But please do all the handlers a favor and ask. To some it may be obvious to not pet the dogs, but even the simple act of putting your hand down to try and distract the dog is almost insulting. They are working very hard to keep their handlers safe, please do your part and let them work.

While when you came to your vehicle it looked like I had plenty of room to give to you, another person was on my driver side. You must keep in mind that traffic in parking lots is dynamic, meaning it is always changing, so when you saw the situation it was different than when I parked. Also in your kind letter, (attached below) you tell me to be considerate, now this might not have been the most considerate move, but I find this suggestion difficult to take from someone who calls me an @$$hole. If you find any of this confusing voting for Bernie Sanders will not improve the situation in the future. Anyway I hope that you can forgive and we can move past this situation.
