#21902 Out of the interest of keeping my job, I have to post this anonymously.

I am a Resident Advisor. I like my job and know that the majority of us are fair, reasonable people and easy to get along with/communicate to. So I am naturally upset when students complain when we don't enforce policy, particularly the recent rash of posts concerning 22 hour quiet hours.

Here's a few useful guidelines to remember before complaining:

1) Is your RA home? Like you, we are full-time students who have our own projects and assignments to do. We are not at your beck and call 24 hours a day and, with this being Dead Week/Finals week, we aren't always in our rooms as often.

2) Is the noise coming in the middle of the night? We may be asleep. Oddly enough, we do that too and many RAs are deep sleepers. If this occurs, let your front desk know as there are always two RAs on call at night who can be called to investigate the situation.

3) Have you even fucking told us? With those two in mind, maybe you should consider the very real fact that we may not know there is a problem in our community because you haven't taken the time to get off your computer, go to our rooms, and inform us of the situation. If we're not here, find a way to leave us a note. Plenty of my residents have slipped notes under my door or left me a message on Facebook. If we aren't told a situation isn't happening and we haven't experienced the disturbance ourselves, how the hell are we supposed to know how to help?

Get off your computer and tell us your concern, it does you no good to complain online about the issue. How is that going to solve your problem?
