I find it hilarious that a lot of us non-Natives want to have our opinions took seriously about Native mascots when in fact it has nothing to do with us. It's a Native issue and they personally feel victimized by the portrayal some of us whites put on them via mascots. Who are we to tell them different? Our people are solely responsible for the attempted genocide of their cultural ways, not to mention their lives. What gives us the right to decide what may or may not be racist to them? As far as I'm concerned, they are humans just like everyone else. And I'm just curious but has anybody ever seen what a Cleveland Indian really looks like? Or a Washington Redskin? Or a Kansas City Chief? What about a Florida State Seminole? No, you haven't, because either there's no such thing, or what they're shown to look like through mascots is utterly false. Has anyone even actually seen a Native person in real life? From what I can tell they have beautiful hair and are predominately brown, not red. And not to mention the name Redskin is completely derogatory and screams racist... like literetaly screams racist. "Redskin", does that not directly apply to someone's skin color? What if they were to be called the Washington Paleskins? And then change their logo to a bleach colored white guy? Would that not be racist either? They are humans like everyone else with deep and rich cultures and their ancestors have suffered a lot to get them to where they are at today. They weren't a privelaged race like some of us were. With that being said, no one, besides Native Americans, should have any input on what is or isn't considered important issues to them.
