#24338 I have been thinking about an incident that I experienced the first week of school and it is still bothering me. I am a female sophomore and was working out at MSU gym. I was wearing a shirt that showed about an inch of my stomach and stretching on a mat when I was approached by a woman who I presumed worked there. She proceeded to tell me that the gym does not permit the "exposure of midriffs or sports bras". What I am wondering is why I see male students upstairs lifting weights, "exposing" their entire "midriffs" and nipples while wearing cutoff tanks that are cut to the bottom of their shirt? This double standard perpetuates rape culture and should not be tolerated.

Contemplation on the ASMSU president being removed from office:
Obviously, drinking and driving is always the wrong choice, and unfortunenatly it is one many of use have made, myself included. For those who say she needs to suffer the consequences of her actions, i promise you she will. She will have to pay huge fees and fines, complete community service hours, attend expensive classes, endure costly car insurance rates, and deal with a huge amount of public humiliation and overall regret. All of these things (in my experience at least) enlighten a person to the true price of this terrible decision.
To those who say she must be removed from office, after incurring the costs, both monetarily and emotionally, the worst thing that could happen to a person in this situation is to lose their job. For our president, losing her job would be devastating. After working as hard as she has to get to where she is and doing her best to accurately represent the needs and wants of our student body, she does not deserve to be denied of her passion for student leadership.

Think about it for a minuet or two. If it were you or someone you care about was having a huge part of their life taken away from them, would you feel the same way?
