IMPORTANT MAC EXPOSED.
Few people on campus still know this but I've the past three years strange hints have popped up indicated a discrepancy in admissions tactics used by Macalester to admit students. It is not coincidence that Mac has yet to become test optional... After talking with a few staff who chose to remain anonymous I can state here on Mac Confessions that leadership within Weyerhauser is determined to make things difficult for nontraditional students.
In fact, have you ever stopped to think about the way class years are composed? I mean really really take time to think about it. Following the
#StopTheWhiteNoise we can surely expect to feel some backlash from adminstration about being overly critical of the same institution that gives us the skills and space to learn how to think about the world. Over the last FIVE years admissions has continued to accept more students while the average ACT score has actually gone UP! Dr. Gertrude from the University of Chicago has labeled this phenomenon "Institutional Fencing" in other words schools like Macalester use subversive admissions tactics to limit students diversity while expanding their student base. This theory also discusses and accounts for the changing attitudes of Macalester students (particularly first years who are continuously leaning further and further to the right).
Seriously, all critical jargon aside. It doesn't take critical theory from Urban studies professor at the University of Chicago to raise our awareness about the changing as student body of Macalester. Mac has always prided itself on being the "East Coast Ivy of the Midwest" in reality this is the University of Chicago, but that's still the goal. Macalester never had any intention on being extremely progressive, it fell into role as a result of being located in a progressive state i.e. Minnesota.
Thank you to the faculty in admissions who decided to be honest about the school's intent for the future of Macalester. We can say by the safe spaces and leftward hallmark that is Mac and begin to embrace a different future. Trump's election should have signaled this to us along with the way Minnesota voted and our reaction and lack of empathy among athletes. If at this point you are still reading this shit damn you are a trooper. I hope I wasted a few minutes of your time. Smoke a fat J and enjoy 420.
