Dear Stop White Noise Faculty,
Nobody wants to talk to you. Not because we don't understand your idea and fear feeling inferior as you enlighten us about it. Nobody wants to talk to you because it's a bad idea. Furthermore, I would like to applaud you for trying. Your efforts did not go unnoticed as you can tell Mac Confessions has been set ablaze by your idea. You've started conversation, congrats. However, much like how Donald Trump's idiocy, outlandish radical proposals, and flagrant actions gained him attention, it doesn't change the fact that it's still a bad idea. (Yes, I did just compare you to Donald Trump)
Lets think about this logically (probably not a strong point for you but lets try anyways). You go to a highly progressive, forward thinking school that leans incredibly left on the political spectrum. Here's your first flaw, you're preaching to the wrong audience. 99% of the people in this school agree with the basis of your point. The majority of us, including myself, recognize that there is a large borne disadvantage to those who are not a white male. Thats why we came to Macalester. Students here are intelligent and aware enough to recognize that there is a historical build up of events that caused cultural disadvantages to minorities. That's why I'm here, to learn and then apply my education elsewhere in order to help those in need. Is that not the Macalester initiative?
So now lets talk about that 1% (at Macalester) that doesn't agree with your fundamental cause. You are pissing them off. They don't want to please you, they don't care if you feel safe, they don't give a shit about you, not because they are inherently bad people, but because you are attempting to shove your shitty ass idea down there throat so you can feel like you've made a difference. IF ANYTHING... you are only pushing more people away from your cause simply because they hate the fuck out of you. You are not administrators, you are not legitimate, and your poorly developed website does not make anyone take you more seriously. So stop hunting down people that disagree with because your not in a position of power and I can promise you that you will not change anyone's mind.
Lets continue. Lets say you tried this shit outside of Macalester (Where you should be attempting to do this because the majority of people at Macalester already agree with you). Do you honestly believe, that after 5 minutes of silence, people are just going to have a fucking epiphany after some self reflection and start identifying with your cause. No. You believe what you believe because you took the time to educate yourselves on the issues facing the world by reading, watching the news, going to school, and etc. You didn't just sit in your room slightly one day for 5 minutes and realize the world has problems. And after your "Silent White Noise" idea... I can DEFINITELY conclude that you did not have an epiphany because lets face it, originality is not you're strong point. You need to come down from where you are and learn to speak with the average American. These are the people you need to be convincing, not your fellow colleagues. Take your education and educate others. But please, for the love of all that is holy under Pablo Escobar and the heavens, don't do it like this. Because you will only make people hate you and your ideas more.
You all should do some self reflection yourselves. This was a bad idea, the first step to fixing a problem is recognizing there is one.
