I saw some freshman (first year? fuck you) comment how thrilled he was to have intelligent conversations with bright people. Enjoy it while it lasts; eventually you'll realize that no matter how many conversations you have nobody is willing to change their mind, including you. The liberal arts education is oversold - almost nobody really came here with the intention of having their beliefs challenged, instead they came here to have them affirmed. And at the cost of any meaningful intellectual growth, they've achieved exactly that. Macalester is no more open minded than the nearest bible college.
