#1879 I'm aghast at how utterly graceless most Mac students are when it comes to interacting with other people. So many people have no consideration for other people's thoughts and opinions if they are different from their own, and so few people make the effort to really understand. It makes me very sad, and very disappointed in the Mac student body, that so many think they are so much smarter than (or otherwise superior to) other people, and display such insensitivity and disrespect for other views. Too many times I have seen Mac students talk down to each other or other people. It seems like a lot of Mac students, who come from already very liberal places like the West Coast or the Northeast, do not understand that some people will not have background knowledge in certain issues (e.g., gender and sexuality spectra, racial, environmental, or religious issues, etc.) and do not have the tolerance or patience to help those people come to the same place of understanding. Being liberal is in no way the same as being open-minded. Mac students make such a habit of lauding their own intelligence and trying to one-up each other, as if out-smarting others is the greatest accomplishment. If you're smart, do you really need to prove it by shoving it down others' throats? I think true intelligence is not just being well-informed and educated, but also the security to know that you don't need to constantly prove it, and certainly the good grace to know you that you shouldn't. I, for one, would much rather be socially competent than 'book-smart'. Mac students don't value simply being nice nearly enough.

#1876 Hanging out with friends from home during Spring Break makes me realize how much better my life was in high school and during summers than it is at Mac. Over the last three years I've utterly failed to make any good friends in college, while I'm still close with the people I grew up with, and I fear that it's probably my fault. I want to change this, but it's hard to make new friends when almost everyone else has settled into stable friend groups.
