I should clarify: I meant Mac was White more culturally than an ethnic/race aspect. Hmong and Somalis in the TC are a blessing, and we need to step up for them more than ever with this new presidency.

Maybe it's just because I've lived in major cities in my entire life, but coming to MN/Mac was a significant culture shock to me from the East Coast. I don't know if I've seen this passive-aggressive cliquishness and Norwegian-level blondeness in my life. Neither trait really helps the "Mac is diverse" tagline a whole lot.

Seriously, if you're from Minnesota, have a SAT/GPA combo strong enough to get into Mac, why the fuck would you stay in this state? Don't you ever want to go, like, visit the rest of America or something? It's not like Macalester offers Minnesotans in-state tuition. There's a metric fuckton of comparable OOS schools that could offer equally strong finaid/academics. Or go to the U or something if your fetish is "winter purgatory".

Maybe this is a really brash, strawman stereotype, but this school sometimes feels like it's made for Minnesotan basic bitches whose first time traveling outside the US is study abroad, by bringing token minorities and internationals to come to them, not the other way around. That way they'll leave feeling "culturally educated" without having even stepped out of their home state and/or comfort zone, where grandma and grandpa who live in Rochester can come up and visit their precious pampered grandchildren every weekend.

Thats assuming you're on campus as early as possible, stay as late as possible, and don't miss a meal, which for many is entirely unreasonable.

Believe it or not, it's entirely possible to be mad at cafe mac the system, management and corporate structure for screwing everyone over, but appreciate the work of the individuals on the ground.

#2138 I hate all the alto flush toilets on campus. It flushes when you're wiping your butt and splashes water everywhere while you're still sitting down. Then, it fails to flush when you're ready to go. Very sustainable!
